IMPORTANT topics such as AIDS, homosexuality and homelessness were tackled by Harlow College in their production of Broadway musical Rent.
The students have been in rehearsals since February and for many of them it will be their final performance at the college.
When asked about how difficult rehearsals have been, Marnie Rollison, who plays ‘Mimi’ in the show said: “Definitely some rehearsals have been more difficult than others. It really depends on how full the cast is, and obviously if there’s some people missing then it can throw a spanner in the works.”
Callum Banks, who plays lead role ‘Mark Cohen’ in this show, has been at the college for the last two years. When asked about the course in general, he said: “It’s been brilliant, a fantastic course. I think it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life to come here and study at this college.”
Similarly, Amber Moylan and Lauren Kirk, who play ‘Maureen’ and ‘Mimi’ respectively, said: “We’ve loved the course. It’s been amazing. It’s been a bit of an emotional roller-coaster but it’s definitely been worth it.”
The college put on two matinee performances, as well as two evening shows on both May 15 and May 16.
