THE JUNIOR leadership team at Cooks Spinney Primary Academy has visited Parliament.
Harlow MP, Robert Halfon invited the students for a tour to see how leadership and governance is exercised at a higher level.
Teacher Sarah Brennan said “We were keen for them to see how their adult counterparts operate in parliament and how important it is to have representation of people’s views.”
Members of the junior leadership team are elected by their fellow classmates with one boy and one girl representing each class as well as one member representing those with special educational needs or disabilities. The main purpose of the team is to represent the student body and bring to the attention of head teacher, Neil Stirrat, the views and opinions of other classmates.
Speaking about the team Mrs Brennan explained “We are trying to develop children’s speaking and listening skills, children should realise they have a voice and that their views are worth listening to.”
