YEAR 11 students at Burnt Mill Academy, Harlow, got a chance to let their hair down at a celebration ball for all they’ve achieved throughout their time at school before the lead-up to the summer exams.
But why stop there? Why let your hair down when you could just shave it off altogether? Such was the case for deputy head boy Klary Rikhotso and classmate Shreyas Pouli who decided they would mark the event by having their hair shaved off for charity.
Francis Collins, associate head teacher, said: “The year 11s had two weeks of mock exams and so were extremely tired. We expect a lot of them, but it is not all about exams; there has to be some down time to celebrate their achievements, which is what this was about.”
The carnival themed event organised by the Student Senior Leadership Team saw pupils enjoying candyfloss, sponge-throwing at teachers, karaoke and a DJ.
Besides the hair-shaving, students also raised money through a raffle of donated items form Tesco, Nandos, JD Sport and Creams. All the money raised was donated to St Clare Hospice, Harlow.
