Mark Hall Academy’s at home cake bake-off

Year 8 students at Mark Hall Academy, Harlow, have participated in a bake-off competition.
They were tasked with baking a rainbow cake to represent the topic of reggae they have been studying in music.
The school has been looking at ways of creating homework that do not involve screen-time in order to take them back to their old school ways.
Sophie Knights, drama and music teacher, said: “With our current class topic being reggae, we knew students could make bright and colourful cakes, while learning new skills and experimenting with baking.

“We have had such a great response. It is wonderful to see their skills brought to life and to see them in a new light, especially in the current situation. We have also had feedback from students saying they have loved this homework as baking is a passion of theirs.”
